Tom Weaver is the Managing Director of Flywheel and experienced design strategist, process designer and facilitator. He works across sectors and disciplines to integrate the latest thinking into his work.
He has a strong background within the learning sector, particularly within the Building Schools for the Future programme, having previously created and run DEGW’s school environments team, after having also been the Head of Business Development for educational consultancy Bryanston Square, where he worked with a variety of bidders for PFI and BSF projects.
He also has a strong commercial background at a strategic and operational level, having also been Deputy Chief Operating Officer of a residential real estate company and Commercial Director of a commercial real estate startup. He brings all these skills to bear on his work with Flywheel, which he created in 2008 to innovate around creating better experiences.
He has led a number of major projects integrating cross-discipline thinking to look at the future of learning space. He recently acted as the lead consultant for the DCSF/PfS’s Space for Personalised Learning project, on behalf of DEGW, looking at ten capital projects to demonstrate next generation learning space and school organisation, and the process for achieving innovation in school design.
He was previously the lead consultant and project manager of DEGW’s Project Faraday team, creating an exemplar briefing process and designs for 21st Century Science accommodation, and also wrote and managed Changing Boundaries, for NCSL, a change management toolkit nominated for the RIBA President’s Award for Research 2008, as well as two follow up toolkits around spatial innovation, also for the National College.
