Jonathan Hey

Jonathan HeyJonathan is a service design strategist and has worked on the front lines of innovation in both Europe and the United States for clients including HP, Procter & Gamble, Nike, Target, Decathlon Group, and Siemens. Most recently, at the growth strategy firm Jump Associates in the US he applied a people-centered approach to innovation blending business strategy, product design and social research to identify unmet needs and develop new opportunities for companies to grow.

He holds a PhD from the University of California, Berkeley, where he combined his core field of design engineering with business, cognitive science, information management and social psychology to better understand what makes successful product development teams tick.

His PhD tackled how high performance design and innovation teams effectively find and frame a worthwhile challenge to solve, and how to avoid the roadblocks and pitfalls along the way.

He has taught New Product Development at the Haas School of Business, Berkeley, the Stanford product design program, and the California College of the Arts Design MBA program.

He also holds a Master’s Degree in Innovation and Engineering Design from the University of Bath. His writings on innovation have appeared in over 16 peer-reviewed publications, and he has presented his work and research on innovation at international forums in Europe and in the United States.
